Title: A Brief Memory of Time
Author: Lexie
Feedback: If you feel so moved.
sm_monthly Prompt: Pre-Series - Twirling
Word Count: 260
Rating: PG
Genre: Gen
Summary: Sometimes she thought she could see through time. Actually, she was sure of it.
Notes: Because kid!Setsuna needs some love too. And NQSerenity reincarnated her back to modern-day Tokyo, thus Setsuna would have had a family and a childhood as well. And because, if you hadn’t guess, I like Setsuna.
Disclaimer: The characters of Sailor Moon belong to Toei, Bandai and Naoko Takeuchi. I make no profit from this fan-based venture. The quote at the end is from The Call by Regina Spektor.
Sometimes, when she twirled around so fast that all the colours blurred together, she thought she could see through time.
Actually, she was sure of it.
Her long hair fanning out, darker than even her mother’s, her dress swirling around her like a princess’s gown, she was positive she could see time itself. It was blue and white and reminded her of electricity. Sometimes she could see great ladies in ball gowns in Cinderella’s ballroom, other times little girls jumping on the biggest bed Setsuna had ever seen in her life. It was better than any one of the books she read; those books where princesses had to wait around for the princes to save them, where everyone was good and clean and didn’t ask too many questions.
No, this was better – there were talking cats, and sometimes, when she was spinning as fast as she could, she felt so happy she could burst.
Those were the times she saw the fairy-lady all in white making stars race across the sky in blues and golds, reds and greens, violet and pink, silver and every colour that she could think of.
She trips over her feet then, tumbling to the grass, sprawled out on her back, staring up at the sky, blinking slowly, letting the stars pass over her, the world stop tilting.
And underneath the sounds of her parents calling out for her, to make sure she’s okay, she thinks she almost heard someone call out to her.
Let your memories grow stronger and stronger, 'til they're before your eyes.
